'From Child Slave to Film Director' - from Quote-a-Day

When he was 4 years old, Sahiful Mondal worked nine hours, seven days a week. He was "paid" a bowl of stale rice a day, which he shared with his widowed mother in a bamboo hut on the roadside. At the age of seven, he was taken to Muktaneer (a shelter for homeless children). There he not only got food but also time to play!

His favorite toy was the "camera". And three year later, Sahiful Mondal's first film, "I Am", won the 2004 Grand Prize at Children's Film Festival; in 2005, his second film, "We Are", took the top nod; and his third film "The Inner Eye" won 2nd place in 2006. Now, the 13-year-old aspires to make films that "help people". [Read his story]
